Who wants to play?

So: I want to do more tabletop RPGs. This has been a consistent thing for me for years. Even at the last time I was doing tabletop, I was still kind of wanting more, and that was a while ago. I really love TTRPG, I've been playing sporadically since around 12, and it's something I regularly get sad about not doing.

My main problem with trying to do it is, honestly, I'm really awkward about jumping into it with a bunch of strangers, and my knowledge is so random (I've done a handful of indie games at cons, and other than that it's mostly been second edition AD&D, with my mother, who throws about half the nitpickier rules out the window) I'm never sure where to start. I tried once to get together a group so I could run it, I think I started from way too vague a point, and at a time when too much was going on, and it never went anywhere.

It came up again a couple of days ago, and honestly, I'd really like to try again. And while I'd happily take links to relative-newbie-friendly games you know of online -- no, seriously, if you have anything shove it my way -- I also figure this would be more likely to work out for me, so here's a suggestion, and a poll.

I would be up for running a campaign for a small number of players -- maybe somewhere between 3 and 6, is my first thought -- but only on one of two games, both of which I'm sort of familiar with and think I could come up with a story for.

Part-Time Gods is urban fantasy deities -- people become gods (are given their powers, their natural powers awaken, it varies), and have to balance their mundane, mortal life with their life as a member of a pantheon. There's a new version slightly different from the one I played, but it seems to mostly run on D10s. It has less of a plot built into the story, but I'm pretty sure I could find one, because GODS. Landing page with somewhat more info here.

AMP is modern superheroes -- similarly, people's powers develop and they have to figure out what to do from there with their day-to-day life. It starts in a place where AMPs are hidden and a recent development, and the guidebooks have an overarching story for the world that a campaign can be built along (or ignore entirely, if it goes that way). It runs largely on D20s. Landing page with somewhat more info here.

Both are more modern, both are built around a sense of balancing your mundane life and your supernatural life but that part could be ignored, both have people with powers dividing into groups with different outlooks for what the powered people should be doing with themselves. (They're from the same company and people, they're similar in some ways; this is part of why I feel like I could do either.) My personal preference is for an RP-heavy campaign, and they both could likely support that, I feel.

If somebody wants to step up and offer to run something else, I'm also up for that and willing to help get a group that might work well together going. Or to start two groups! I just really want tabletop, guys. I want it so badly.

If any of this sounds of interest to you, feel free to fill out the poll below, and hopefully a group can be gathered? :D

Anything you can think of that would turn a game into an absolute no for you? (Feel free to PM if this isn't enough space.)

Any questions, or anything else to say?

♥ to you all, and if you have any other questions or anything, feel free to either comment or PM me or whatever.

Honestly, I am up for anything, simply because I'm a noob. XD I would prefer asynchronous play, just because I know that games can take like 4 hours and I'm not sure I could reliably play that long. But even not doing an asynch game isn't a dealbreaker. I'd wouldn't be like "Yeah, no, not gonna even try it". I'll give it a shot, even if IDK if it's something I can maintain, especially once summer semester starts and I have to go to campus 2x a week.

My long-form RP group has an asynch D&D game and it basically goes "DM posts something players have to reply to in the IC chat room, players have X amount of time from when the DM posts to reply to it (IIRC, we have 12 hours, though that can be stretched if someone knows they're not likely to be able to get online in time), and we let a bot do the rolls". We have people from all over the world and it would be impossible to figure out a time when everyone -- 3 from the US, 2 from Great Britain, and one from Australia -- could meet up online due to time zones.

ahhhh I sort of really miss forum RP for that kind of slow-moving thing. it's also fantastic for downtime/between-game stuff, even in games with regular sessions, because it's so low-pressure.

That makes sense! Definitely try for the thing you want, here, since you're organizing/setting it up :)
