In other news, I am apparently going to bake away my depression. I had a falter back into a weird brainplace last night, and then my brain decided to fixate on the desire to bake. And cook a little, but mostly bake.

It's kind of nice to be wanting to do something, though? Especially something away from the computer? I'm putting together a little list. Also I'm going to get food coloring and do colorful things because, well, why the hell not, it makes me smile. I'm gonna try and make colorful sunrise solstice cookies. We'll see how they go, but I have an idea. :D

Also at some point I was rambling to Bast about this and from that conversation:
1. I really want an enamel pin that says "I can't be sad, I'm baking".
But mostly, 2. I went on a tangent about opening a mental illness-themed bakery (Depression Doughnuts! Mental Illness Muffins! Craziness Cookies! Bipolar Brownies! Anxiety Apple Turnovers!) for... some reason, I don't remember how it started anymore. Anyway, the discussion of the hypothetical Bad Brains Bakery derailed into the idea of a much less ridiculous Bad Brains Baking Blog, experimenting with recipes and discussing things. I... am pretty sure this idea will remain a hypothetical too, but I still kind of like it.

The other thing I did this morning so far is finish watching Crazy Ex-Girlfriend season 1. I watched the first roughly 2/3rds in a binge when I was having a rocky night, so I kind of want to go back and rewatch a little closer, but I'm really enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would for a bit. And having more feelings than expected.

...But now I have to choose between that and Oxventures for work noise today, so it may have been a bad idea to continue another thing. XD

Aaaand now I should go work. And do dishes. And get food done. So away I go.

Baking is so good! And colors really do make everything better. :)

Are the colorful sunrise solstice cookies colorful because of the batter being colored, or because of having colorful icing?

They really do! I'm looking forward to ridiculously colored things.

Dough, because I'm really, really bad at making icing. XD My thought was to make a batch of cookie dough, divide it in not-quite-half, color half blue and half orange, and then try and make cookies with the orange mostly on one side, so it's kind of sunrise-y? I'm not actually sure it'll work, but I figure I will try a batch before solstice to see if it does, and if not I will just make blue and orange cookies separately. XD

Oooh, that sounds neat! (Depending on the kind of dough, getting blue to show properly can be difficult -- mostly because egg yolks tint everything yellow-y to start -- but the idea will still get across.)

Making cookies that are blue/orange split also makes me think of Portal and Portal cookies, which is amusing to me.

Also, regardless of color, they'll be tasty, which is definitely an important aspect. :)

I think baking sounds like a wonderful way to fight back against depression - you're doing something active-ish, you're using your brain, you're being creative and you're making something out of nothing. How postive! And yummy baked goods as a result as well :) Have fun!
