Reccing Thursday: Signal Boost + Recs
Via
snickfic, an idea:
kore and I were saying how sad we were about the slow decline of reccing culture, and then we said, well, let's try and do something about it. What about making Thursdays the day for reccing, the way we have Reading Wednesdays?
So here is our humble suggestion: today, here or elsewhere on your social media, rec a fanwork or two. A new discovery? An old favorite? Anything goes! And if you're up for it, maybe mention you're doing it for Reccing Thursday. Maybe we can make it a thing. :D
And hey, you know I'm up anything that involves recs.Or might kick my ass in gear and get me reccing regularly. So have a post, and if it interests you, throw up a couple of links, or boost the idea, or just get ready to jump in next week.
I'm reccing on the theme of musical theater canons, in honor of my being nestled into them for the last week or so.
(I'm going to cheat a little in that I am absolutely certain I've recced both these Chess fics before - I beta'd one and one was written for me - but I don't care because I love them.)
Chess: The Queen's Gambit Accepted by
dreamsofstars - 1.6k, G, Anatoly & Svetlana, post-canon
Look, I have a bias because Sarah is the one who helped me develop all my many, many feelings for the Sergievskys, but also: Sergievskys. The two of them being friends after their marriage has finally completely crumbled, but with the knowledge that all that history still exists, is one of my favorite things. Also Svetlana being awesome!
Chess: Optimistic and Encouraging Times by
primeideal - 1.8k, T, Molokov/Walter, space AU
Again, this was written for me, so my bias for it is large. But spy shenanigans IN SPACE! Chess shenanigans in space! Pitch-perfect prickly spy banter in space! Worldbuilding! I just love it so much.
Company: Marry Me a Little (Five Women That Bobby Never Married) by
Nestra - 1k, T, Bobby/various
Sometimes I just want a good, old-fashioned five things fic. And this here is a really great five things fic, with Bobby in relationships with each of his female friends. The last one is pitch-perfect, but I have a gooey happy soft spot for the second and the fourth.
Hamilton: My heart is stone and still it trembles by
holograms - 4.5k, M, Hamilton/Burr, soulmate AU
I really like soulmark AUs of all kinds, and "you have the last word your soulmate will say to you printed on you" is such a deliciously painful conceit to start with. Add Hamilton and Burr and their clashes and it gets even more painful along the way. And the last bit of this is just lovely.
Into the Woods: Halfway Through the Woods by
lotesse - 670 words, G, Baker-centric post-canon gen
Atypical families are one of the tropes closest to my heart, and this is such a lovely little look at the survivors in this play post-canon, with just the right amount of bitter in its sweet to make it feel right.
