Fanfic reading meme!
It is 8 am, I have not slept, I am trying to burn through as much work before roommate awakens as possible so I can go to the store, come home, and get sleep without worrying about when I get up.
Clearly it is meme time! (Mostly cause I don't want to start the next 2-hour Oxventures video when I probably don't have that long.) Stolen via
petra though I want to say I saw at least one other person do it?
1: are there any fics that you wanted to leave multiple kudos for, and were disappointed when you could only leave one?
In... theory? In practice to be honest I am just as bad at leaving kudos as I am comments. *facepalms* I really need to fix that but I read on my phone so often.
2: coffeeshop AU or soulmate AU?
Soulmate AU. (I do like coffeeshop AUs, but soulmates are very close to a bulletproof trope for me.)
3: slowburn or established relationship?
It... really depends? I probably lean towards slowburn but sometimes I just wanna skip all the set-up altogether.
4: has a fic ever made you cry?
So, so many. At least four this month alone.
5: what category of fics do you read the most? (angst, fluff, etc)
Is AU a cohesive enough category to count, because probably that? I split pretty evenly between angst and fluff lines, I think.
6: what’s your least favourite fanfic category?
Either PWP or chatfic. Both are just not my thing for varied reasons.
7: would you rather read a plot-focused fic or pwp?
Plot-focused, clearly. XD
(why... is there no question 8?)
9: what are your favourite ships to read fics for?
All of them. Seriously, I think I can count the ships I generally avoid fic for on one hand and I can still think of fic I like for most of those, I'm just... super not picky here. Uhhh, let's see, recently... I fell back down an Owen/Ianto (Torchwood) hole somehow? Also most Umbrella Academy ships, Tom/Carl (Young Wizards), and Troy/Annie/Abed (Community) and all permutations thereof. I feel like I'm forgetting something.
10: have/would you read a reader-insert fic?
I've probably read at least one out of curiosity, if someone shoved one at me and told me it was worth a look I'd probably read it, but I'm unlikely to ever click on one on my own.
11: ever read guilty pleasure fics?
So many.
12: first-person or third person fics?
Third person generally, but I have nothing against first. (Also, waving my lonely flag for second person POV, always.)
13: do you read author’s notes usually?
Unless they're very long, generally I do. And I'm more likely to read long end notes than start notes, especially for fic I really liked, because then I always want to hear more about it. (If I really love a fic I tend to crawl through comments looking to see if the author's done any rambling about it there. XD)
14: what’s your favourite AU setting?
It really depends on what mood I'm in at the time, like, I'm really having trouble ranking them right now. XD Urban fantasy, I think, tends to be my biggest go-to?
15: do you usually leave comments on chapters/fics?
*hangs head in shame*
(I am seriously trying to get better at it. But, one, I DO read a lot on my phone, and I haaaaate commenting on my phone. And two, I tend to pull up a fuckton of tabs and marathonread my way through things when I'm having insomnia or bad brains, and I don't always have the mental energy to comment then, and I don't always actually remember what I've read when my head's clearer.)
16: fix-it fics or au fics?
I mean, most fix-its are at least a little AU, but if we're calling them separate categories and focusing on AUs that are not fix-its, AU.
17: canon-compliant or canon, what canon?
Canon, what canon?
18: have you ever read fics you would not confess to reading?
Mmmm... I guess? I can't think of many but there's probably something.
19: undercover au or college au?
College AU. (I like undercover AUs, but am more likely to be picky with them.)
20: what something that immediately makes you exit out of a fic?
No line breaks. Character bashing. When a fic opens with smut, generally. Constant misspellings of a major character's name, unless I'm real tired. In certain fandoms, a wide-spread headcanon will annoy me enough that unless a fic's already really good, it cropping up will turn me off the fic. (Clint in the vents was a big one for MCU, and I had a couple in Marauder-era fic that really bugged me.)
Block of questions if anyone would like to copy them easily:
